Sowing Times


July

- Sow Cabbage 'April' seeds, plant out from Mid September - Mid October, 15 inches between each row and 10 - 12 inches between plants in the row. Harvest between March and May.
- Sow Sea Kale seeds, plant out in September into ground with grit added in. Harvest from Jul onwards (Yr 2)
- Sow Cabbage 'Hispi' seeds, plant out when about 4 inches tall allowing 1ft between rows and 1ft between plants. Harvest from November.
- Sow Cauliflower 'Deakin F1' seeds, plant out end of August, 24 inches between each row and 24 inches between plants in the row. Cover with cloches from October onwards. Harvest December - January.

August

- Sow Cabbage 'April' seeds, plant out from Mid September - Mid October, 15 inches between each row and 10 - 12 inches between plants in the row. Harvest between March and May.
- Sow Cabbage 'Spring Hero' seeds, plant out in September, 12 - 15 inches each way. Harvest in April and May.
- Sow Cabbage 'Red Drumhead' seeds, transplant in March, 18 inches between each row and 18 inches between plants in the row. Harvest in June.
- Sow Pak Choi seeds, plant out from end of August, 16 inches between rows and 10 inches between plants in the row. Harvest from September til November.

September

- Sow Cauliflower 'Snowball A' seeds and overwinter in cold frame and plant out in Mid-March until end of April into rows 20 to 24 inches apart and 20 to 24 inches between plants in the row.
- Sow Cos Lettuce 'Vaila - Winter Gem' into a tray of compost maintaining a temperature of 10 - 15 degrees celsius. Grow on to finally transplant into the greenhouse border 8 inches apart. Sow every 2 weeks for continuous cropping.
- Sow Lettuce 'Winter Density' outdoors into rows 1 foot apart and thin to 6 inches between the plants. Alternatively sow into modules and plant out in rows 1 foot apart and 6 inches between the plants. Sow every 2 to 3 weeks for a continuous supply. Harvest from March til July.
- Sow Lettuce 'Arctic King' into modules and plant out in rows 1 foot apart and 9 - 12 inches between the plants. Harvest from April to May.

October

- Sow Cabbage 'F1 Mozart' seeds in a propagator, transfer to 3 inch pots then plant out in March into rows 24 inches apart and 24 inches between plants in the row.
- Sow Pea 'Dounce Provence' in Allotment and protect with cloche protection
- Sow Cos Lettuce 'Vaila - Winter Gem' into a tray of compost maintaining a temperature of 10 - 15 degrees celsius. Grow on to finally transplant into the greenhouse border 8 inches apart. Sow every 2 weeks for continuous cropping.
- Sow Lettuce 'Winter Density' outdoors into rows 1 foot apart and thin to 6 inches between the plants. Alternatively sow into modules and plant out in rows 1 foot apart and 6 inches between the plants. Sow every 2 to 3 weeks for a continuous supply. Harvest from March til July.

November
